ACS Spatial Analysts Jyoti Jain and Christopher Thompson spoke at the Arizona Chapter of Society of Conservation GIS (SCGIS) meeting held in Phoenix on Thursday June 25, 2009. Their presentation focused on GIS Applications for Cultural and Environmental Resources Management along with examples of interesting projects (i.e., a Flood Control District of Maricopa County project and Bureau of Reclamation projects) conducted by ACS. Their presentation started with an interesting question “Where is GIS NOT involved in Conservation?” In addition, they discussed the general GIS workflow at ACS, Mobile GIS, Arcmap* customization using model builder and other custom scripting tools, Land Suitability Modeling, Cultural Resource Sensitivity Map, Directional Distribution Analysis, and Archaeological and Ecological Assessment.
